Established in 2001, at the time when Singapore launched its Biomedical Sciences Initiative, SCL today offers five diploma courses from Pharmaceutical Science, Food Science & Nutrition, Applied Chemistry, Chemical & Pharmaceutical Technology to Biologics & Process Technology, that prepare “O” leavers to be “future ready” industry professionals. SCL’s motto of “Sparking Innovation, Impacting Lives & Industry” undergirds the way we teach and are committed to nurture the spirit of innovation & enterprise in our students. It is also the inspiration for us to make that difference solving challenges facing industry and S’pore, be it for example in food security, food safety, green manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals and specialty chemicals or urban sustainability.
Developing You To The Fullest Potential
Moving forward, while working closely with you in training for the industry, SCL also focuses on a student-centric approach to develop the all-rounder NYP graduate. Such a graduate has strong professional knowledge and skills, is socially responsible, innovative and enterprising as well as equipped with 21st Century skills like communication, teamwork, critical thinking, taking initiatives, exercising leadership, amongst others. Such skills can also be developed by joining CCAs, be it a sport, the hip-hop dance group, the NYP Orchestra, Japanese Cultural Club, whatever. Ultimately the future workplace will not be based on what you know now but on how you think and adaptable you are to change. This is why an applied science education, which hones and develops your thinking and problem-solving skills, will always be relevant.
